Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden and Beyond

Cities are big.  Consequently, we have discovered that taking a tour bus provides an inexpensive and wonderful overview. With some pre-planning, you can get off and back on wherever you choose.  Cape Town has an excellent bus that we used to stop by Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden then continued around the mountain to the beaches and back to the V&A Waterfront.

A sculpture by Arthur Fata of Zimbabwe is in the entryway patio of the Kirstenbosch.

Miles of walkways and trails wind throughout the garden including one trail that leads up to the Table Mountain summit.

The many kinds of trees, shrubs, and plants are indigenous to southern Africa.

Helmeted guinea fowl and an Egyptian goose were wandering around.

Jim enters one end of the Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway.

The Silver Bush and the King Proteus are only two of the outstanding plants in the garden.

Art was displayed throughout the garden.

This angel greeted patrons to the garden's excellent restaurant.

Hopping back on the bus, we saw many neighborhoods, marinas, and beaches.

Souvenirs were available for purchase.  If only the bus had stopped....

Gorgeous beaches abounded.  When we were there in May, we had outstandingly beautiful weather.

Is that a Claes Oldenburg sculpture?  No, it is by Michael Elion.  PERCEIVING FREEDOM is a sculptural tribute to Nelson Mandela on the Sea Point Promenade looking out towards the old prison at Robben Island in Cape Town.

Last stop before returning to the V&A Waterfront is "Moaning Minnie", the Green Point Lighthouse.
