Mokoro

Back at the lodge our fellow travelers were very jealous of our lionesses, leopard, and Cape buffalo story.  Nothing they saw was so adventuresome.

The local women who did much of the manual labor for the lodge also wove beautiful baskets and displayed them so we might buy them.  I purchased several.  It was great that I got to see who actually made the baskets and knew that they received the money.

My room was quite lovely with the view from where I heard hippos bellowing.  The shower is on the left.  So much time was devoted to the drives, that I never utilized the sitting area or refrigerator full of drinks and tidbits.

An outside seating area included a private pool area, but the weather really was too cool to use it.

The late afternoon activity was a guided ride in a mokoro, a canoe made from a hollowed out tree, on some channels in the delta.  The guide stands in the stern and pushes the mokoro with a long pole, much like punting.  On the way to our mokoro we saw hippos, elephants, and zebra.

Dense grasses formed the view from the mokoro then transformed into sedges, rushes, and lily pads.

The ride was very calm and serene with great views.

An African Fish-Eagle was hoping to find supper.

Two other mokoros were out on the channels: one like us, and one that was ahead of the mokoros watching for hippos.

Tebla made me a lily pad necklace after we tasted the lily pad fruit.

Our 'sundowner' included all sorts of refreshments and several other groups of travelers.

Center Camp was arrayed in lanterns when we returned for supper.

Tomorrow would come early as the morning game drive begins at 6:15 am.  It would be our last game drive before flying out at 10:30 am.
