Maun

If you find yourself deciding to take a trip to see animals in Botswana, you will more than probably pass through Maun at some point.  Maun is on the southeastern edge of the Okavango Delta, the gateway, really, to one of the most engaging experiences you will ever have.

So Maun....  Maun is a small town in the middle of Botswana, but it has an International Airport, absolutely wonderful restaurants, interesting and unusual places to stay, and the tiny Nhabe Museum.  The gorgeous rhino greets you.

Inside are objects from the indigenous people of the area.  Some baskets are for sale.

Several handmade musical instruments were on display.

There were examples of early art.

This was one of my favorite pieces because it is sculpture from found materials.

Jim waited patiently while I bought a basket.

We spent three nonconsecutive nights at the Rivernest Boutique Cottages in three different rooms.  The Rivernest is only one of many, many other places to stay, both high end and low end.

They even had a swimming pool and a restaurant.  We did not ever eat in the restaurant because there were other wonderful choices like Hilary's Coffee Shop.

Maun is a great place to stop over on your way into or out of the Okavango Delta.
